  YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, WY      A powerful hydrothermal eruption occurred in the Biscuit Basin Thermal Area Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves through the park and causing extensive damage to the surrounding area.   The explosion, which occurred at 10:19 a.m. local time, sent boiling water and steam into the air, along with a shower of rocks and debris. Several visitors captured the dramatic event on video, which showed people fleeing the area after the explosion.   Although no casualties were reported, the explosion caused significant damage to the boardwalk, destroying benches and sections of fence. The park has temporarily closed the Biscuit Basin area, including the parking lot and boardwalk, while officials assess the situation and determine when it is safe for visitors to return. Hydrothermal vents, which are the rapid conversion of underground water into steam, are a common occurrence in Yellowstone. However, their unpredictable nature makes them difficult to predict.
